I Forgot My Camera
Being a street photographer requires you to always have your camera on you. But that doesn’t mean your camera is always out and ready. Depending on what type of camera you use like a DSLR, it can be difficult to carry or constantly have due to the size. Is using your iPhone a solution?
All the above were shot and edited on my iPhone 7+. Sometimes I forget my DSLR or simply can’t bring it because my bag is full. That doesn’t mean great moments can’t be captured and turned into a master piece.
Don’t Sleep on the Photos App
The iPhone comes with a handy photos app that has some nice features and editing capabilities to make some dull images full of life.
Take a look at the image to the above. I shot this on my iPhone 7+ of course and it actually wasn’t bad as it is. But I didn’t want this look. The sky was actually a little warmer and I wanted to give the picture a different look. So I opened the photos app and got to work
I added more warmth, tint, and sharpened the image a little more to give the skyscraper more of a presence while still keeping the shadows. All these features are easily adjustable to get your desired tone of the picture.
The sky here was beautiful but the original image was not giving it any justice. The sky wasn’t blue enough for me, so I adjusted the saturation and vibrance. Personally, I try not to get too saturation and vibrance happy because the picture can look too unrealistic. Of course if you want a surreal feel, by all means, keep going.
This beautiful sunset on the shores of Punta Cana was just asking to be given more life. By adjusting the contrast, vibrance, shadows and saturation I was able to give a little reflection of the sky on the sand.
Don’t Let a Lack of Tools Stop Your Imagination
Regardless of what camera you use, what phone you have, or what program/ app you use to edit your pictures, don’t let the creative process stop. Use what you have and make the most of your art.
